Noris

Seasonality: Winter

Noris – one of the most valuable Lithuanian selections, developed at the Lithuanian Horticultural and Gardening Institute (LSDI) by Professor I. Štaras, by crossing ‘McIntosh’ and ‘Lietuvos pepinas’. This variety was created to produce an apple with a dessert-quality flavor comparable to McIntosh, but better adapted to the local climate and with longer winter storage.

Appearance: Fruits are medium-sized, round or slightly flattened, and very regular in shape. The skin is smooth, medium-thick, greenish-yellow, almost entirely covered with a diffused dark red with a purplish tint and a bluish waxy bloom. Visually very appealing, reminiscent of Lobo or McIntosh.

Flavor: The flesh is white, sometimes with a slight greenish tint, very tender, juicy, and fine-grained. The taste is excellent, dessert-like, sweet-tart, with a strong and pleasant aroma. It is considered one of the tastiest Lithuanian winter apples.

Tree characteristics: The variety has good winter hardiness and moderate disease resistance, though it may be susceptible to apple scab in wet summers. Trees are productive and regular bearers. Harvested fruits stored under controlled conditions keep well until February or March without losing their flavor.
