Seasonality: Summer (early)
Geneva Early – a variety developed in the United States (New York State, Geneva Experiment Station), created by crossing ‘Quinte’ and ‘Julyred’. It is renowned as one of the earliest-ripening apple varieties in the world, often maturing even earlier than ‘White Transparent’–type apples.
Appearance: Fruits are medium-sized, round or slightly flattened. The skin is thin, greenish-yellow, but on the sunny side it develops a bright red-pink blush that can cover a large portion of the fruit.
Flavor: The flesh is creamy white, very juicy, tender, and aromatic. The taste is refreshing, sweet-tart, with a pleasant wine-like aftertaste. Like most very early varieties, it is best eaten immediately after harvest.
Tree characteristics: Trees begin bearing very early (often in the 2nd - 3rd year). The variety has good frost resistance but is moderately susceptible to apple scab and powdery mildew. Fruits do not ripen all at once, so harvesting must be done in several passes. After picking, they store only briefly - about 1 week - making them suitable for quick consumption.
