Seasonality: Summer (early)

Close – This variety was developed in the USA (Delaware) in 1938. It is valued as one of the earliest-ripening apple varieties, producing fruit 7–10 days earlier than the popular “Alyvinis.” It is ideal for those eager to taste the first apples of the season.

Appearance: Fruits are medium-sized, elongated-conical. The skin is smooth and greenish-yellow, with most (or even the entire) surface covered by a dark red, slightly indistinct blush with small speckles.

Taste: The flesh is pale yellowish-white, sometimes with a pinkish tint under the skin, juicy and firm (until fully ripe). The flavor is pleasant, sweet-tart, with a distinctive, fresh aroma.

Tree characteristics: The variety is moderately resistant to apple scab and shows good winter hardiness. Fruits do not ripen all at once, allowing for staggered harvests, but they must be consumed immediately as they quickly become mealy and have a very short storage life.
