Lodel

Seasonality: Winter

Lodel – Originated from Poland, researched in Research Institute of Pomology and Floriculture at Skierniewice by crossing ‘Lobo’ and ‘Delikates’. Its name comes from the first syllables of the parent varieties. The variety was created to combine the excellent flavor of ‘Delikates’ with the cold hardiness and attractive appearance of ‘Lobo’.

Appearance: Fruits are medium to large, round-conical, very uniform and visually appealing. The skin is smooth, medium-thick, almost entirely covered with a solid, rich dark-red blush, giving the apple a highly marketable appearance.

Flavor: The flesh is white, tender, very juicy, and fine-grained. The taste is dessert-quality, sweet-tart, harmonious, with a pleasant aroma. Its texture resembles ‘Lobo’, but slightly firmer.

Tree characteristics: The variety has good winter hardiness and is fairly resistant to apple scab and powdery mildew. Trees bear abundantly and consistently every year. Fruits ripen in late September–early October and, under controlled storage conditions, keep very well until February or March.
