Seasonality: Winter (late)
Ligol – a modern variety developed in Poland in 1972 at the Skierniewice Horticultural Institute by crossing ‘Linda’ and ‘Golden Delicious’. It quickly became one of the most popular commercial varieties in Central Europe due to its remarkable productivity, large fruits, and excellent storage qualities.
Appearance: Fruits are large to very large, round-conical, often slightly ribbed near the calyx. The skin is firm, smooth, glossy, greenish-yellow, with most of the surface covered by a bright red blush.
Flavor: The flesh is creamy in color, very firm, crisp, and extremely juicy. The flavor is well-balanced - sweet with a mild, refreshing acidity, and highly aromatic. This is one of those apples that “crunch loudly” when bitten.
Tree characteristics: The variety is highly productive, so thinning is often necessary to prevent undersized fruit. It has moderate resistance to frost and apple scab, but is sensitive to bitter pit (calcium deficiency). The fruits have excellent storage ability - when kept in controlled conditions, they remain high-quality until April or May.
