Connell red

Seasonality: Winter (late)

Connel Red – A variety discovered in the USA (Minnesota), representing a red mutation (clone) of the well-known ‘Fireside’ apple. It is especially valued in northern regions for its exceptional cold hardiness and ability to produce very large fruits.

Appearance: Fruits are very large, sometimes even gigantic, and round-conical in shape. The skin is firm and smooth, mostly covered with an intense dark red or deep cherry blush, giving the apples a highly attractive commercial appearance.

Taste: The flesh is yellowish-white, firm, crisp, and very juicy. The flavor is mild, leaning more toward sweetness than acidity, with a pleasant aroma. It is an excellent dessert apple and also suitable for baking.

Tree characteristics: The variety is extremely cold-hardy, making it well-suited for harsh growing conditions. Resistance to apple scab is moderate. When harvested and stored in a cool place, the fruits keep very well until spring (March–April).
