Bogatyr (Rus. Богатырь) – A variety developed in Russia by crossing “Antanin” with “Landsberg Reinette.” It is valued for its very large fruits, firmness, and resilience to adverse conditions. It is one of the most popular late-ripening varieties in both commercial and home orchards.
Appearance: Fruits are very large and heavy, flat-round with pronounced ridges near the base. The skin is thick, light green at harvest, turning yellow with storage. A faint russet blush may appear on the sun-exposed side.
Taste: The flesh is white, dense, very crisp, and juicy. The flavor is sweet-tart, refreshing, with a strong, pleasant aroma. Its high acidity and firm texture make it excellent for fresh consumption in spring and for culinary processing.
Tree characteristics: The variety is highly resistant to apple scab and very hardy in winter. Fruits have excellent transportability and long storage life, remaining high-quality in cool conditions until May.
