Kultrenetas (Golden Noble)

Seasonality: Autumn (late)

Kulterenette – an old English selection, discovered around 1820 in Norfolk. It is considered one of the best culinary apple varieties in the world, especially valued for its ability to retain shape and color during cooking. In Lithuania, this variety was very popular in interwar and postwar orchards due to its decorative appearance and clean, tart flavor.

Appearance: Fruits are large, regularly round, and very aesthetically pleasing. The skin is smooth, thin but firm; when fully ripe it becomes bright golden yellow, without any blush, though sometimes small speckles appear.

Flavor: The flesh is yellowish-white, tender, and very juicy. The flavor is fresh, dominantly tart, with a strong, pleasant aroma. It is ideal for baking (pies), as it becomes creamy in texture when cooked without turning mushy.

Tree characteristics: The variety has moderate winter hardiness, so in Lithuania it is recommended to plant it in a warmer orchard location. It has good resistance to apple scab. Trees bear abundantly but may biennially bear if unthinned. Harvested fruits keep well until December.
