Adersleber Kalvill – German variety, bred in 1840 in Adersleben, Saxony (Germany), by the gardener Lichthardt from the abbey estate. It was obtained by crossing the varieties “Calville Blanc d’Hiver” and “Gravenstein.”
Appearance: Fruits are conical or round-conical, with smooth, thin, slightly glossy skin. The color is light greenish-yellow or straw-yellow, sometimes developing a subtle pink or orange tint on the sunny side.
Taste: Very juicy, with a distinctive, strong, and refreshing aroma typical of Calville apples, often described as having hints of pineapple or lemon.
Tree characteristics: Begins bearing fruit moderately early, with regular but not particularly heavy crops. Moderate hardiness; may be susceptible to scab and other fungal diseases in wet years.
